Most of the animals have to fight for authority and dominate to preserve their ecosystem. To reach the goal they have to develop their force and ability to fight to allow coming generations to face an adaptive challenge of other living being in evolution process. Man didn’t make an exception from those rules trying to find more and more progressive ways of defence and protection. He developed the mobility capacity and a performing task execution and also his brain allowed him to create some tolls and devices that increased significantly his force. Suffering in its physical sense was a kind of force competition with the species like mammals, reptiles, insects, microbes, viruses and vegetation trying to protect and spread themselves as well as nature collisions and it consequently became necessary to stimulate evolution. Struggle for territory and food was the only way to survive and reproduce provoked a lot of conflicts and gave a reason to develop more capacities, too. It’s a historical fact that most of scientific discoveries have been first used by the army as the only official protector from an enemy, or suffering.
But what’s happening today? Nowadays we are in an era of global knowledge and information transmission that give hope for a better life. We have learned to face those problems considered before as a “divine punishment” like diseases, epidemics, hunger, natural calamities, tsunamis, earthquakes etc, and we don’t consider a human sacrifice necessary to pay for our ancestors’ sins frightened by Gods’ or the God’s anger. We don’t have doubts that an eclipse can hide the sun light and that a volcano explosion might launch a new ice era on Earth. Those physical phenomena understanding and their virtual models help us to forecast our behaviour towards future situations that used to be destroying and irrevocable. Suffering is no means now to avoid a rainless period or to save a future harvest. The Earth has never had such a big population before. There are still some viruses and bacteria causing death. Struggle for food should be over by the time information accesses everywhere it can’t reach today (by information I also mean a technology expansion due to new knowledge). According to some prognostic analyses, agriculture and breeding development as well as other sources of provision are enormous so that we would be able to feed twice the actual world population. Our life expectancy grows each year, our psychological knowledge allows us to improve our life conditions compares to those of the past, and we can forecast and fight against natural calamities all this in spite of their impact due to the population growth. Alert systems and rescue services interfere on a global level. Hydrocarbon resources will be used up soon but new propulsion means will appear. The world has started taking care of the environment and in spite of today’s situation there are new solutions coming. We have also come to the point when the arms we possess can destroy an enemy and ourselves so we should find other ways to arrange international disputes. An amazing quantity we have already developed will be able to arrange international conflicts and only commercial battles will take place. There is still some rivalry because of territorial claims or material resort like petrol or some religious faith problems but all of them will sooner or later diminish in spite of some examples of the contrary. Information, education and knowledge will become more accessible to everybody and not a certain privilege and expand with an internet speed. In this case suffering is just an option in accordance with all the scientific experience gained recently. We can live a happy life in the world which might be still imperfect but getting better in its own tempo letting us already use our fight instincts in a kind game related ways. Certainly there is still a high crime percentage which is getting lower due to the efficient security measures. And there is some unfairness towards human beings like injustice, women and minority discriminations, poverty etc although we are getting more conscious and responsible about that. Discussion has never been as animated on Earth as nowadays. We are definitely moving to a better society that will certainly fall backwards at a certain time and in some aspects here and there but I believe that the planet’s Middle Age is clearing away and we are witnesses of a great time where suffering can no longer take place for any kind of evolution as we will conquer our last predators and comprehend our congeners who still primitive can’t enjoy new capacities developed in the industrialized countries.
